Hero of My Heart

My apologies for neglecting this blog this week! It's been a rather busy one!

Some of you know that we are having a corner cabinet made for the living room. That's what inspired the redecorating mentioned in previous posts. Funny how that works! You bring in one new piece, and the whole room changes. Anyway, when our carpenter came out to measure for the corner cabinet, he asked for some pictures of the beautiful custom cabinet he made for us to display some of Jonathan's things. Jonathan is our older son who was killed in March, 2003. We think this cabinet is extra special, so today I thought that I would share it with you. A focal point in our family room, this display helps us feel just a little closer to our son.

While I'm at it, I'll include a picture of some special mementos included in Jonathan's memorial display. There is a Coast Guard pocket watch on the left, and a picture of Jonathan at his bootcamp graduation on the right. I love that picture of him! In the center are some figurines that I also treasure. There is a VanMark Coast Guardsman that features excellent detail. It was given to me recently by my sister-in-law. I also cherish the Willow Tree figure of a mother holding her son's burial flag close to her heart. Papa bought this one for me. Titled "Hero", the verse included with it reads:

Hero, we honor thee,
keeping safe your memory.

Thank you for letting me share these pieces of my heart today. : )
